Capturing Citi Field

Dates

April - September 2024

Focus

Architectural and Sport Photography

Location

Flushing, Queens

Citi Field was meant to evoke imagery of Ebbets Field, long gone home of the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Mets were founded four years after the Brooklyn Dodgers moved out west, and five years after the New York Giants did the same. Hence, the Mets colors are fittingly assigned as "Dodger Blue" and "Giant Orange."

Citi Field is situated between the 7 line to the south, a sea of parking to the west, a highway to the north and auto shops west. While its arched brick entryways are undeniably reminiscent of Ebbets Field, the footprints of the stadiums differ greatly. Ebbets field was much more integrated into an urban area, while Citi is much more grand in scale.

Proximity to Laguardia Airport yields low-flying planes over the stadium every few minutes - a fixture of Citi Field and its predecessor, Shea Stadium.
